Curator’s Comments:

This seemingly untitled piece appears to be an outlier among your biomorphic sculptural installations and photographic portraiture, in format and in the visceral manipulation of color.  The saturated red and blue color palette offsets the blackness of the drips within the dark pattern, adding depth and visual allure to the somber tension of opposing forces.  I appreciate your comment contextualizing the painting, but I read it as a more universal struggle for dominance, as the weight of the top encroaches on the bottom, without providing specific narrative iconography.  The painting also feels like the fragment of a larger whole, as the design pushes up against the perimeter of the picture plane.  While the scale isn’t offered, the darkness of it’s visual weight looms large.
