Curator’s Comments:
This classically posed Lady at Window enjoys a lush, rather densely packed compositional space. I enjoy the light source indicated in the window, and the red-orange glow cast on the subject’s face and hands. The warm hues additionally provide a soft counterbalance to the bouquet beside her, while the simple architectural lines provide underlying structure to the painting. I can’t quite resist making the obvious comparison to Whistler’s painting of his mother with the rectangular frame in the background of the seated woman. However, I admit that I’m not quite sure what I’m viewing with the small red triangular form on top (or behind) her head. This appears to be a limitation in viewing the smaller resolution picture rather than ambiguity in the painting itself. It’s a wonderful painting- deceptively simple in its complexity. Thank you for sharing your new work on the site.
