Curator’s Comments:
While the medium isn’t indicated here, I’m intrigued by the sophisticated layering of pigment in this image, Laminae. The process looks as though it could be serigraphy based because of the flat expanses of color. The way in which the hues and color transparencies are manipulated also looks as though the piece could contain physical folds of tissue thin papers collaged onto one another. I like that the purest hue, a primary red, appears to emerge in the center between veils of neutral grey and a deeper, textured red. I also find the active, brushy edge keeps the smooth exterior boundaries from a static presentation. While some of the other images share a similar approach to exploring the formal properties of color fields, the physicality of Laminae is most satisfying. I do hope you post new work on this site- they are pleasurable to view, all around.
