Curator’s Comment:  

 

Caprice fond blanc is an ostensibly seductive object, embodying male and female equipoise through its derivation as a found object and vibrant pink hue.  The twisted sculptural form, ridged in a gold ribbon band, recalls a fetish corset or feminine torso through its curvaceous and flared gesture.  Formally, I find the linearly striated texture of the pink surface to be an enjoyable contrast to the smooth polished edge, though I’m not certain what was present in the original truck radiator. Lasciate Ogni Speranza Voi Ch’entrate  (Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter) is slightly more foreboding that corporeally enticing, if through title more than actual physicality.  But the bold red, silver and blue blocks within the piece are decidedly graphic, and are perhaps intended to read as pop/political or to re-enforce the post-industrial.  But the small figures along the top edge are curious additions; they appear fragile and slightly superfluous to the dominant sculptural form.
