Curator’s Comments:
The myriad of low chroma warm gray tones nicely suits this Homage to Turner. I like that the piece isn’t an obvious copy of Turner’s painting, but remarks on the amorphous clouds of color wash within an abstracted seascape. The bridge forms an interesting architectural barrier between the water and sky, as the underlying value pattern doesn’t necessarily distinguish between them. The darker horizontal shadow along the top of the picture plane in fact forms a strong visual counter point to the darker band of murky water in the bottom of the picture. The small bits of land/brush peering through at open intervals of the bridge and foreground successfully ground the piece in distant atmospheric perspective. Despite all of the understated color, the painting still maintains a luminous feeling of light across the subtly reflective water.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
