Curator’s Comments:
This notably large-scaled mixed media painting created back in 2010 came up on the site today. Aptly titled An Obsession with Pleasure, the lush pink ground balances high chroma hues against some neutral areas for a bubbly gestalt of organic and geometric forms. The dots impart a stabilizing pattern to the piece, while the visual relationship between the large white lily and small pot at the bottom of the composition sets up a humorous disparity. The viewer may draw movement from the flower downward, into the vessel which is unlikely to contain the form. This visual play between the components engages the viewer beyond the initial sensory attraction. The similarly constructed Emotion Recollected in Tranquility is arguably less buoyant in color and composition, as the repetition of vessels effectively ground the other floating shapes, but offers a satisfying point- counterpoint. I enjoyed looking back through your other works on the site today, and hope you will consider sharing new outgrowths of your practice with us.
