Curator’s Comments:

Legacy is an exquisitely simple painting. The plain austerity of the space and restrained color palette compels the viewer to become more sensitively conscious of the object’s long history, and detailed physical wear.  While this piece could be classified as a photorealist painting, rather than removing all evidence of the human hand, the brush reveals an intense focus and reverence for tradition and academic study.  An unpretentious and ubiquitous tool of the trade, it is also a painting about the quiet, often solitary process of a days work. In addition, the gray cement background is beautifully and meticulously crafted, while at the same time it is minimally composed with the linear edges of the blocks.  Centrally positioned, the single brush becomes iconic, or an object of fetish- emblematic of the painter himself.  In some ways this image seems a more fitting self portrait than the following painting of the artist in the portfolio.

Excellent work. I also have antique tools and materials, left by my mother, even paper products. So fun.
