Curator’s Comments:

Letter to My Authentic Self seems a more wishful offshoot of your geometric grid formations that playfully balance order and chaos.  Perhaps slightly personal in its conceptual reference, it also obscures meaning though the intimacy of self- communicated patterns.  The ‘letter’ mentioned in the title looks to be a literal drawing of a classic stamped postcard.  Cascading from that first image or symbol come a series of dots or ticks that escalate in number as they descend in space.  I found the bottom image most compelling; the foot and footprint.  Whether intimating the specificity of the human print or corporal presence, the viewer is left to question.   It causes one to contemplate the originality of our marks and need to reach ones authentic self.  I also find it interesting to consider this work in the context of the other grid based board designs.  It is a formal outlier of sorts in its hazy blue-violet shadows, rather than confident and flat primary hues.   Without the confines of an exterior border the line of small boxes look somewhat adrift and quiet.  The listing of magnets in the artwork’s media also makes me wonder if the pieces are meant to be moved and rearranged on some backing.  If that is the case, the linear narrative dissolves, and the dots may represent other groups or messages entirely.
