Curator’s Comments:
I find it interesting that your artistic practice, speculating from the few pieces you’ve posted on the site, seems to vary a great deal in terms of design, process and media. There is an underlying organic figuration to them all, but I’m most enamored by the simple elegance of Life Cycle and the instinctive, vigorous value pattern in Fertile Ground. Since the medium isn’t indicated on the piece entitled Life Cycle, I’m uncertain if this is documentation of a sculptural installation or a self-referential photographic composition meant to stand alone. In either case, I enjoy the spatial relationship in the linear arrangement suggesting an intertwined complexity and spiraling motion, while simultaneously presenting the viewer with large areas of open, negative space. The shadows behind the primary elements subtly echo the visual movement and momentum in the arching lines. By extreme formal contrast, Fertile Ground crowds the picture plane with rapidly contrasting undulations of tone and shape. While some value transitions occur, chiaroscuro gives way to expressive mark-making. I can make out the suggestions of individual figures, but the overall (charcoal?) drawing conjures a writhing natural force or entity.
