Curator’s Comments:
I’m enticed by your painting entitled Light because it has the same whimsical graphics of your other pattern oriented pieces, but also contains a contrasting gestural approach to the paint surface. Small drips and apparent interruptions in the flat surface present a visual foil and relief from the graphically oriented geometric shapes and dots. The milky white pigment pervasive throughout the piece has a surprising degree of variation in opacity, offering more complex layering of visual information. While it’s not as light hearted as the brighter works with a higher chroma ground, it draws me into the space with nuanced pale applications of the medium. I also like that the dark outlined shape in the bottom left is significantly different from the more economic circles and squares, and intimates a guiding purpose in the space if not formal dissonance. I also see a bit of this interplay between painterly approach and hard edged shape in Khuza’s Lights. The large animated shapes are a wonderful pictorial divergence from the lush white painting offered in other compartmentalized sections.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
