Curator’s Comment:
The Blood has a primacy that the title demands. The spectacular swath of primary crimson denotes a life force, but rather than relying on dripping fluid texture, I find it interesting that the red is a scumbled layer of pigment. The textural quality captures the nuances of the surface underneath, and slows down the eye. The cooler thin veils of color in the background wonderfully balance the dark belt of blackish-blue at the bottom. For me, the transition of these two blue areas suggests a lake or pool of water- giving way to the suggestion of liquid matter. I also enjoy the allover pattern of some of your other sizeable paintings- especially Inner and Outer Lies. But the former piece carries a more gestural quality, rather than a seemingly intentionally calculated environment. And while there is an intrinsic beauty in geometry, the specificity of The Blood makes it distinctly if not categorically more human.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
