Love the complexity!
Curator’s Comments:
Welcome to the site! I find Liminal 1 both elegant and desperately tangled, with its broad mass of intertwined dark lines and subtle color. The totality of the form suggests a large tree, with lines building into a crescendo in the top third of the picture. However, with longer viewing the image dissolves into a purer expressive abstraction. The smooth Yupo paper may encourage the fluidity present in this mixed media painting, while the stark white ground give a lighter sensation to the marks. I imagine the piece has an incredible presence on the large scale you have noted. The viewer may encounter the work as an environment rather than an illusionistic picture. There is no doubt I’m missing some of the more subtle and complex interactions between passages of gold and pink color while viewing the piece on my small computer screen. I look forward to seeing more of your work on the site.
