This piece is a lovely small scale assemblage, seemingly iridescent in sections, alternating with cool, semi-transparent color. The focal points of the insects and child’s portrait move the viewer up through the elongated verticality of the piece, hovering at areas of finer detail and color contrast.  I’m wondering if those are actual found butterflies in the piece, or silk/paper cutouts.  Either way, I feel there’s a strong Victorian sensibility to the piece, not only in the inclusion of feminine lace, but in the frozen moment of a living curio.  At first I couldn’t make out the objects as small clear light bulbs between and beneath the climbing leafy vines.  After reading the description I imagine they must bring a more contemporary quality to the sculpture, though they’re still constructed in a line as in a garden/floral row.  I also notice there is more open background space in this work compared with your most recent pieces.  The stillness of the ground suits the subject matter, offering placid self-possession and contemplation.
