Beautiful plein air work!
Thanks for featuring this painting of mine. I am currently on a one-month painting residency in Renkum Holland and have a gofundme campaign to help with costs. http://gofundme.com/renkum. I have been painting everyday. I discovered that this area is the "Dutch Barbizon" (or was in the late 19th century). I had been painting the horses along the low Rhine and visiting the smaller villages (Renkum itself is small). Here is an image of yesterday's work:
Curator’s Comments:
I think Salvaggio is one of your most handsome beach scenes in the series, for the simple elegance and purity captured in the sand, sun and the figures. The blue haze reflecting off the warm sand is sophisticated layering of color to engage the senses. I also appreciate the secondary figure off to the left and vessel pushing off to the right of the composition to frame the central focal image. The shadow’s on the back of the figure’s legs economically reveal anatomical musculature without fussing over small details. Similarly, the aesthetic decision to dissolve her hands and feet into the ground fluidly unites her in the space. On the other end of the compositional spectrum, I admire the visual activity Martinsicuro Beach Scene. The figures and umbrellas crisscross the sandy ground in an energetic flurry of marks, while shadows drag below to anchor them in the beach.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
