Curator’s Comment:
I find this individual piece in your Maya series most compelling. Like some of the others, it contains a sort of hyperrealism, as if I’m looking at an image that’s been manipulated by a polarizing filter. But regardless of how the image was made, the figure is picturesque- supple, solid, and quite lovely. The model confronts the viewers gaze with her own, exuding an alluring confidence. The subtly modeled space and flecks of higher chroma color don’t compete with her prominent stature, but accentuate the warm hues in her skin with an almost reflective translucency. The warmer, saturated orange tones on her leg and hand establish a secondary focus, balancing her stare, and the white wisp of drapery in the upper left corner. The small architectural detailing of an open window keeps the space uncluttered and inviting, and the figure unencumbered or restrained. I don’t feel as though she’s competing with her environment. I also like how she fills most of the space, further controlling the picture place, and how her body is viewed. The works which include her back, or present her in a competing space are inevitably more voyeuristic, but they also sustain the tradition of the classical nude.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
