Curator’s Comment:
Meteor’s strength for me lies in its muscular use of suspended weight. The cleaved boulder like forms branch out from an unsuspecting, wary base. The truncated sections look to be cut from the same mass, and then reassembled without regard to laws of gravity or balance. The surface texture is also appealing, vacillating from smooth cut areas to rough organic texture. There’s a visceral primary in that the dark material, reminiscent of wood and stone as well as forged steel. The title adds to the intrigue, suggesting a random occurrence of natural phenomena that by rarity of incidence becomes extraordinary. I also like Symphony II, with its levitating structure and surprisingly buoyant handling of weighty material. I see a clear figurative association that may or not be your intent. But while its smooth cut edges are elegant and precise, it lacks the potential for observance of transformative forces. I really love seeing the translation of this metaphysical relationship in your paintings as well.
