Thank you very much for your precise understanding what I wanted to pass to the viewer.
Curator’s Comment:
I’m happy to see your new mixed media work posted on the site. There’s a strong continuity of approach in your signature style of working, along with dexterous exploration of abstract form and representational elements. This piece, Butterfly Dance, enjoys a particularly interesting relationship between non-objective shapes and butterflies. The butterflies weave in and out of organic pools of color- clearly overlapping the surface with paper wings in some sections, while sinking back into the ground in other areas. The red tipped wings of the insects along the left vertical line cross into the similarly colored line- either lending their color or pulling it from the painting’s source. I see this as an interesting play with illusionistic space and more decorative patterning. But with longer viewing it looks as though small electronic inclusions (computer parts?) join the meeting of the two blue oval pools. This suggests another layer of artificiality and illusion. The second Butterfly Dance (2) piece more prominently emphasizes the insect forms. Along with their larger scale, they have what appears to be a more wholly realistic depiction. The dots and lines throughout this composition appear as secondary elements- perhaps tracing the pathways of the butterflies’ dance rather than controlling their passage.
