Curator’s Comments:
Bluette stands apart from your other economic portraits in that it’s both more fanciful and more streamlined. I’m attracted to the bold contour lines in the bright blue hair, and basically complementary hued yellow-orange background. I also find the three-quarter position of the head to be more demurely coquettish if not engaging, allowing a slight break in the otherwise direct viewers gaze. I’m uncertain as to what you’re communicating with these women, who seem to be more individual than generalized archetypes or characters. The graphic Pop influenced aesthetic is evident, without giving further clues about popular culture or consumption. While the pieces lack a specific narrative, formally, less may be more.
