Curator’s Comments:
Thank you for bringing this new piece to my attention. Without the benefit of seeing it in person I don’t have the advantage (or disadvantage as the case may be) of appreciating its physical scale. As a maquette it appears fully resolved in terms of form and surface- though it does strike me as more colorful that most of your other sculptures. The primacy of pure red, yellow and blue is in harmony with the sharply honed pieces, though it certainly adds a bit of compositional complexity. The repetition of the bars implies dynamic movement, and intuitively more kinetic than frozen or static. I also appreciate the cantilevered balancing of the separate components. They seem to reach out further from their base, while directing visually back to the center. I see it as a Modernist inspired work, suggesting space and land travel while also celebrating purely mechanistic invention. The warm coloration of the stone base offers a jarring contrast to the sculpture, and presents an opposing, and grounding, elemental force.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
