Curator’s Comments:  

Morning Drive came up for me in a random selection on the site today.  The freshness of the piece, and the simplicity of the pale value pattern with a bright swath of blue cutting across the road make it notable. I realized I had been enamored with your more majestic scenes some time ago; Morning Drive perhaps overlooked by its subtlety. While it contains atmospheric and linear perspective, the movement is stilled by the horizon dividing the painting roughly in half.  The very nuanced shifts in hue in the sky contribute to the still mood, but formally tie in to the cool shadows below.  I appreciate the change in the distant landscape from the empty roadside views. There is an optimism of sorts, in that the viewer is being led into, and promised, a more lushly wooded future scene.
