Curator’s Comments:
Moustier Grotesque is a captivating little piece, subverting the delicacy and femininity inherent in traditional porcelain painting. The small characters are intricately rendered among the floral motif, further subverting the viewers’ expectations. I also appreciate the series of sushi plates, with realistically painted plants and animals. The compositional singularity of these works against the pristine white china creates dramatic asymmetrical design, as opposed to the allover patterns. Coq chinois is especially strong, taking advantage of the black ringed border to visually tie into the black feathered plumage. The head on presentation of the bird is unanticipated, and confronts the would-be diner with a decidedly animated meal.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
