Curator’s Comments:
Magnolia appears to be an interesting departure from your otherwise figurative representations. Employing a similar geometric angularity, this piece is obviously more architectural, and perhaps even more abstracted in its simplified and elevated composition. The overall cool color scheme adds a unifying element, while the heavier distribution of visual weight towards the top animates the structure. But it’s far from minimal. The ticking of tiny rectangular shapes adds visual tension and interest, subdividing the larger blocks into smaller windows of greater interest. I don’t necessarily understand the title of piece, but then again other aspects remain equally mysterious.
