Curator’s Comment:
I find your work almost overwhelmingly beautiful. The rich jeweled hues add extra layers of opulence to the undulating organic shapes and textures. The feminine figures generally are bold and command a good bit of attention as well. I especially like this piece, Earth-1gb- because of all of these characteristics, but also because of the hierarchy of form and organization of space. The compartmentalizing structure of the green stream like shape behind the figures segments the multiple portraits, and offers a small amount of visual rest. I love that the round eye of her orange bird companion repeats in the small radiant targets flanking her shoulders. The snake replicates the shape and position of the figures opposing arm, while the fanned out fish tail echoes the figures arching, ornamented halo. I find these formal patterns create a harmonious rhythm which allows me to move back and forth throughout the work in a fluid, if intricate manner. I also like your quite restrained piece titled Dream. The quieter palette makes me really see and appreciate your handling of textures and transparency versus opacity. The archetypal boat in the sky is full of associations of dreams, imaginings and the subconscious.
