Curator’s Comment:

Of Heart and Mind has an interesting enclosed totality.  It obviously references an anatomical heart, but it’s cleaved in a manner to also intimate a leaf, or other floral contour.  The tendrils coming off of the edges of the form soften its assertive presence, despite the contrasted interior pattern.  The purples, red and yellows in the interior space are not natural hues- suggesting something artificial, if not invasive.  The black negative space further sets it apart from the body.  It’s as if it’s presented in isolation for a surgical procedure, or like a jewel on black velvet.  Veins and passages are also absent within the heart, suggesting a psychological blockage, or idea taking over a being in absolute totality.
