Curator’s Comments:

One Point of View is indeed meditative, as noted in your expressed intent for the piece back when it was posted a decade ago.  But while this painting in your “Soft Side of Nature” series evokes a state of calm, it also conveys an unknowable depth.  The verticality of the piece exaggerates the weighted proportions of the sea-sky relationship, filling the picture plane with quietly undulating waves in the foreground, then breaking into a white expanse in the center of the piece. This empty passage suggested a large wave crest. With longer looking it also evokes a sort of void in the expanse. I find the interruption of the sea vaguely unsettling. But then the viewer regains pictorial grounding in the further off blue-violet horizon; right where it’s supposed to be. I see other relationships between the beauty and serenity of nature combined with elemental forces in several of your other paintings on the sight.  The vacillation between representation and abstraction seems to bridge these micro and macrocosmic environments. The piece entitled Love, for example, echoes the striations in the cobalt blue (morpho) butterfly in My Valley.  Therefore the beauty in delicate forms is enhanced by inclusion in a broader or abstracted ecosystem.
