Curator’s Comment:
I completely agree with Julie- these works do exhibit a joyful chaos. The sub reference to Intergalactic Treasure Hunt certainly contextualizes the painting within the scope and fantasy and expression. For me, the vernacular of cryptic symbols and animal-hybrids in the related "Assembly" are reminiscent of Pollock’s early investigations delving into psychoanalysis and macabre dreams. The organic figuration is slightly more playful in this particular image- perhaps buoyed by the scumbled white and tinted yellow palate. I see the central abstract form as slightly tortured in its twisting and linearly extended abstraction. But the central eye shape creates a centralized calm. It’s interesting to see the range of saturated, higher chroma pieces, organic modeling and more ethereal space. As mentioned, I also really enjoy the work titled Assembly. Here the recognizable animal figures serve to both stabilize and animate the more gestural marks and space. Their tight containment within the picture plane seems less physical than mystical- a sort of psychological primordial soup. I personal respond more to the earthier pigments in the works that contain animal or human entities, as it has a connation of corporeal metamorphosis.
your work is sooo energetic, filled to the brim with exciting color and what feels like mythic creatures. ...a sense of joyful chaos
