Curator’s Comments:
I first saw Lost in time as the title implies; adrift and abandoned in the open space. But on closer viewing I see the horse is actually quite grounded, and is surrounded by denser collaged text passages rather than open air. While I can’t read the words at this monitor resolution, the amount of writing implies a long narrative, or personal correspondence. I’m wondering if the viewer is meant to read the script if viewed in person, or if the pages function simply as markers of expressed thought. Either way, the weathering of the surface of the words with pale blue patches interrupting the warmer tones suggests another layer of patina and time. The horizontal striations in the animal conjure movement of time as well, if not speed. Yet the overall mood of the piece for me remains quiet, because of the muted palette and relatively low contrast.
