Through A Haze Of Smoke is a three panel abstract painting or a triptych, that is inspired by a brush fire that Jaymie witnessed while driving on a road trip. At first Jaymie notice how beautiful the fire was and then was shaken by how the beauty masked the destructive force that nature can bring at any moment. Welcome to the site! I enjoy both triptychs you’ve posted, particularly the amount of depth and atmosphere you were able to achieve in the limited palette of Through a Haze of Smoke. The reverse glass technique nicely filters some of the painterly marks, and plays with the opacity versus transparency of the pigment. I respond to the abstraction of the brush fire- rather than depicting traditional flame like shapes or recognizable landscape, the red-orange masses appear to bubble out of the cooler organic hues. I don’t necessarily detect a buildup of intensity within the three panels, or a reduction of activity either, but ebbing and flowing intensity. The third panel is particularly interesting, as there appears to be some overlapping of multiple washes or layers. It’s almost as if these under layers’ function as a faint ghost of the more saturated color masses in the foreground (or bottom layer). I do hope you continue to add work to the site.
