Curator’s Comments:

I like the layered subtly of this pastoral landscape, and the unusual vertical orientation of space with a flat horizon.  The sharp slivers of higher chroma blue water against the warmer, more muted patches of ground create an enjoyable stacking of organic shapes.  And while the space is actually fairly shallow in terms of depth of color temperature fluctuation and graduated detail, I appreciate the atmospheric perspective gained from the sharper contrasted reflective foreground.  I also take pleasure in the painting entitled Winter Wheat (ws) for the broken hues present in the large expanse of the field.  In this piece the blue-violet trees in the background push forward due to their saturation, and compress the picture plane.  But representational distance is easily sacrificed for an intense  experience with luscious color.
