Curator’s Comments:
Persephone’s Cries appeared on the site today, despite it being created some time ago. I was taken in by the aggressive gestural markings, coupled with more delicate horizontal striations. It’s difficult to decipher the collage components in the heavy textural medium, unless it’s the edges of applied surfaces that I’m detecting in the more delicate linear paths. The analogous warm color helps maintain a visual harmony in the piece, as the value contrast provides variety and movement. The title helps conjure narrative associations with the physical layering- a dark underworld met with the reemergence and growth. I was somewhat disappointed to see this as your only post on the site- I would be interested in seeing other facets and examples of your painting practice. Please do consider sharing new work.
