Portfolios: July 2014 Curator Reviewed Art

Curator’s Comments:
I’m not sure what I’m looking at in this slide, and the descriptor/heading of ‘paintings’ may be misleading. I believe I’m viewing an installation of many small white figurative sculptures, with their backs turned away from a long planter on the ground. Of course scale can also be deceiving. Looking at the grouping of images in your portfolio, it looks as though you’re working with organic images of fertility and femininity. Are the objects found or constructed? The large egg in the vitrine makes the specimen more precious, and heightens the viewers’ understanding of its inherent frailty. Its large proportion in contrast to the rather small nest is slightly startling, as if an abhorrent natural phenomena. I do hope you’ll consider posting more images, and offering context of scale and content. I infer intriguing relationships between the forms and would like to know more.
