Curator’s Comments:
I find myself strangely entranced by these amorphous paintings. The liquid quality of the brushwork reminds me of decalcomania, or another naturally occurring organic process/ phenomena. This particular piece, only designated through numerical title PH2 7940, is interesting in that the warm brown tonalities are particularly suggestive of bodily processes or natural formations. The web-like lines of the flowing striations are undulating rather than taught or sweeping. The small cooler blue inclusions to the right side of the composition also help to create a hierarchy within the picture plane, while the uniformity of biomorphic marks and overall warm tone unifies the image. I realize these paintings were posted some time ago, and I’m curious to see if you’ve continued to work in this vein, or if the liquid forms have evolved into something else.
