Curator’s Comments:
(6) Armani Fashionista appears to be an outlier among your other non-objective, almost explosively gestural paintings. I find the relationship between the photographic image and what looks to be collaged border of actual pennies to be an interesting yet superficially disparate combination. However, the sepia toned image visually coordinates with the copper penny hues, while the architectural elements in the photo offer visual harmony with the repeated circular motif. It is an unexpected and clever pairing, along with the deep crimson final border. Of course the viewer is bound to form conceptual connections between the woman posing in a sumptuous evening gown, and the somewhat crass everyday coins. I inexplicably also find a slight bit of humor in the piece. Perhaps it’s in the relationship bordering haute couture and the inconsequential. The other works in your portfolio on the site don’t offer any further evidence of a visual narrative, though the title implies an awareness and choice of the model’s pose rather than happenstance of a found image. Eye to Eye (7) is the only other piece you have which includes a human subject; but here the looking and relationship between the eyes appears to be purely formal.
