Curator’ Comment:
This wonderfully elegant and understated piece came up randomly on the site today. The attribution of cosmic forces to the simple construction of found objects beautifully captures the astral in the profane. The patina on the wood provides a warm entry for the viewer, which is furthered by the tactile coloration on the planetary balls. I’m wondering if I should recognize the functionality of the small recessed holes under the balls, as they allude to a utilitarian function in their alignment and regularity. Scale of the sculpture isn’t noted. I contemplate the presence it would have on a small physical scale, and think that would add to the notion of sharing an intimate secret or wistful joke- that the Planet Maker is in fact an artifact accessible by human hands.
