This piece is one of two selected for "The Big Picture" during Month of Photography (MOP) Denver. Great event!
Thank you so much for your comments! I sometimes fail at being able to discuss the finer elements of my images. This series is an exploration of the vague determinism people use to explain the circumstances of their lives.
Curators Comments:
Magic is an engaging image, because of the ambiguity of form, and alchemy suggested in its physical materialization. The black grainy image as a result of the printing process affords an abstraction of a mysterious and possibly supernatural figurative form. The horned head atop the humanoid body staring back at and confronting the viewer intimates folklore and fantasy. The devilish connotation could also add an element of menace or potential moral arbitration. But there isn’t really enough information to extract a decipherable narrative. Compositionally I like that the picture dissolves around its edges, providing value contrast just in the center to make out the body. It holds our attend and waits.
