Curator's Comment:
The wonderfully animated painting Pond recently came to my attention, along with other pieces in your Microbe series. While I had admired your figurative work in the past, the emotional tension in those narratives may have overshadowed this more formal and poetic piece for me. The good amount of contrast between darker red and blue shapes on a lighter contrasting green ground gives the work an airy feel- the elements appear to move freely along multiple vertical axes. Free-form opaque white shapes counter the thicker application of layered pigment, while the square format nicely enhances the formal relationships. I was a bit surprised to read the painting is acrylic rather than oil or enamel because of the depth in layering and scumbling. Cosmic Comic, by contrast, shares spatial and shape relationships, but has a robust graphic quality. The flat yellow base pushes forward, as a competing and saturated under layer.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
