Thank You for your feedback... Its nice to hear someone pick up on what I am trying to do, and see the work for what it is. I live in the "Buckle of the Bible Belt", Charlotte NC, and rarely get that quality of critique. Usually all they see is "neckked" and their inner prude balks and squawks! Local galleries don't do "Nude Nudes", Or they claim I am objectifying and thereby degrading women with my "sexism"... Fortunately I have found a couple of gallery owners in New York City who appreciate what I am doing and are encouraging me to continue, hopefully one will decide to rep. the work and help me broaden my audience! But I wont know for sure until I meet with each of them again this coming October.
Godspeed,
Scott Reid Parker,
Curator’s Comments:
These paintings are smartly sardonic - and I especially like them together, as a diptych. The top piece has an animatronic quality, whether mannequin or robotic feminine prototype. Outfitted in an Art Deco gown, the figure conjures images of Fritz Lange’s iconic maiden of Metropolis. Her demure gesture against the pastel pink and blue (Victorian? ) interior seems slightly amiss or comical, as if poking fun at mechanized sexuality. The stylized nude below also emerges with a strangely affected artificiality, despite the greater manipulation of shadow and concentration of anatomical detail. To some extent she reads as a pin-up or airbrushed centerfold model despite faithfully mimicking the pose of the mechanized/articulated mannequin above. Coyly meeting the gaze of the viewer, I see her as doll-like with her full breasts and diminutive hands and feet. The accompanying title and text also offers dialogue about the inherent disconnect between words and beauty. Corporate (Ms.) Adventures reaches further with a direct textual pun and collective fantasy; we imagine words and clothes literally and figuratively make a man. Or in this case, a woman.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
