Curator’s Comments:
Pure is arguably the subtlest piece in your already understated series of images entitled Things I Find on the Sidewalk. The square format reinforces the sense that the viewer is taking in a small section of a larger entity, although there’s not enough information in the photograph (for me) for the whole to be recognized. The white texture on the cream-colored ground suggested reflected light on skin. I detect what I believe is an extremely faint grid embedded in- or emerging from- the neutral ground. Searching the picture plane for irregularities and pattern, I appreciate the softly darkened edges, creating a reverse halo, or vignette effect. I recognize these works were created and uploaded to the site many years ago, and I wonder if you’ve continued the practice of highlighting the mundane, and by doing so, are discovering the sublime in ordinary days.
