Curator’s Comments:
The images you’ve posted on the site appear to be various stages of bodily performance. Qabala Step is most appealing to me because of the enigmatic photograph accompanied by altered text. The dual presentation of image and canceled type with hand manipulation is reminiscent to me of Arnold Mesches transformative documents included in his FBI series. But your subject matter seems more obviously mystical and questionably autobiographical rather than overtly political. I’m also wondering if the title Qabala is another variant or enumeration of Kabbalah, as in teachings of rabbinical origin. Either way, the work itself evokes magical and ritualistic activity in beautifully resonant color and tone. The viewer is afforded the sensation of the figure hovering over a mapped constellation of artificial light in amber shadow. Rather than touching down on the diagram, we are perched on the brink of participation and discovery. Simultaneously viewing the right half of the diptych, I derive other associations with ‘live’ and ‘trajectory’. It is a rich juxtaposition of figurative elements and text while maintaining an intuitive aura of the concealed supernatural.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
