Curator’s Comments:
I find this contemporary platter that appeared on the site today reminiscent of traditional Barbotine Majolica, with its sculptural fish and insect embellishments. But rather than a purely ornamental sculpture, the smooth figurations could maintain the utilitarian function of the tray. The muted color scheme of the glazes supports the organic imagery, and is suggestive of both food and wild fauna. The similarly designed Sea Fish Platter is equally appealing, with what looks to be a more concave form and articulated edge. I enjoy the variety of works you have posted on the site, ranging from ceramic work to jewelry and printmaking. I remember commenting on your stoneware rabbit piece entitled Loss some time ago. While the form and media may be somewhat disparate in your artistic practice, all of the works reveal a love of organic form, with many highlighting animal forms rising from the clay.
