Curator’s Comments:
These recent sketchbook pages exert an acute and welcome clarity into your creative process. Having long admired your stylistic figurative paintings, the achromatic ink drawings reveal more economic compositional choices. The third page in this new grouping particularly holds my attention because of the surprising solidity of form in what looks to be built up thin washes of pigment. The steps of the large organic structure/landscape run counter to the darker stacked lines in the far-right corner. It’s as if bricks are up against a terraced mountain. The small bird figures climbing the steps accentuate the shifting elevations, and provide contrast of scale. It will be interesting to see if these motifs re-appear in any of your other full-color paintings. The viewer would gain even more insight into what gets edited out in the painting process, and what facets remain.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
