Curator’s Comments:
Trabajo_Sin is a fascinating piece, confounding instruments of work and pleasure. I like the hierarchal scale of the large yellow figure cradled into the bottom corner of the picture plane. The “sin” in the title is perhaps encoded into the iconography of fruit and wine; simple geometric shapes and tools alternately recall labor. I find the various animal and plant forms more ambiguous. I’m also curious about the black field of space within the exterior square border of the piece. The platform could suggest a main area of activity with some symbols inexplicably forced to the periphery. Either way, t does set up a dynamic equilibrium between all of the elements, if not directly tied to a compositional narrative. Looking back through your other drawings on the site, I remember being attracted to the others more evenly composed on a white background. All of these pieces radiate a dynamic energy of tiny drawings within a bigger picture.
