Curator’s Comments:
I find these Sandpiper beach glass vessels to be simply elegant. They effectively maintain the pebbled semi-opacity of tumbled beach glass, the reminiscence of which is also conjured through their softly rounded edges. The bowl forms, as opposed to the standing tray, appear to change slightly in wall thickness. I’d be curious to hold the actual objects to discern if they were lightweight, or possessed considerable heft. Either extreme could present an engaging object, from a fragile and airy container to weighted form of substance. The small red bowl is especially intriguing, as it falls outside the anticipated cool blue and green hues of beach glass. The red contoured shape also gives the unique impression of congealed liquid, evoking the organic primacy of soil, agate or blood. The vessel also seems faintly irregular; perhaps carrying evidence of the hand worked process rather than a commercially cast form.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
