Curator’s Comment:
I like the immediacy of Divine Intervention 11, intersected with a more methodical plotting of loosely circular shapes. The circles are chain- like in their reaching linkage- teetering as the broken line arcs upwards. The lines nicely balance the fields of color, as the dripping paint is absorbed into broader passages of semi-translucency. Rawness contradicts the calm, and creates a complex and compelling dynamic. The deep pink and green pigments are intense but also softly manipulated without harshly divided edges. Again, it seems a play between opposites. The title also suggests spiritual logic to describe otherwise unforeseen or controlled events. Similarly, I appreciate your piece Don’t You see the two ZEROS because of its analogous interplay between color field and line. But Divine Intervention, for me, has more depth and a soaking color and light. Because of its vacillation between opacity and transparency, I‘m less aware of the actual ground (canvas, or texture).
