Still Image of a video project entitled, Sages.
The video displays a series of landscapes that are slowly transformed over time.
In this particular image the landscape is changing from forest to industrial.

Curator’s Comment:
No doubt the complete transformative quality of Sages can’t be experienced in a still image. But I still appreciate the picture’s soft focused, low contrast appeal. The delicacy of the plants creates a ghostly fog in which the viewer is pulled in to make sense of the scene. Only when the consciousness of the smoke stacks presence along the bottom edge is fully deciphered does the content become transparent. The billowing clouds coming from the industrial complex rising up from the brown foliage float up into the mist, and are alternatively perceived as organic structure. Ironically, my first impression of the image was of fluffy cotton bolls.
