dear Curator, much appreciated, your time and expertise.
Curator’s Comments:
I appreciate the loose painterly sensibility in Secret mission..penetration, which seems to have a slightly gritty or edgy quality to the searching lines. I see the color palette as slightly discordant- but this murkiness and meeting of high chroma hues with muddier neutrals is quite engaging. I read the shifts as evidence of changes in direction and ongoing process. The gestural lines suggest a scrawling script- or personal and intuitive communication. The topographic layering is reminiscent of some of the earlier stratified pieces you posted on the site, but the paint in this work looks thicker and more exploratory than referential of landscape. The primary blue and green forms on the brownish ground are decidedly organic, but not tied to land or sky. I also see the individual brushstrokes as turning in on themselves, rather than stretching outward along a projected horizon. For these reasons the “penetration” in this painting could be more inward or psychologically motivated than an outward manifestation or expression.
