Curator’s Comments:
The ominous title The Planet is Burning injects a dark narrative component into this otherwise highly abstracted landscape. Appearing randomly on the site this week, I was initially drawn to the dripped lines in concert with the directional black streaks; the gestures play against a sense of visually choreographed lines versus similarly random marks. The fiery colors within the interior of the space appear to be emerging from a dense thicket. But the piece also works as a complete non-objective painting, with the flame like shapes drawing the eye to a focal element, and providing counter balance to the lower chroma blues. I admire the dexterous use of the oil medium here, as it’s beautifully stretched between thin wash and creamy opaque ground. The incredible scale of the actual work no doubt supports the dramatic interchange between light and shadow, and a burning on the horizon.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
