Curator’s Comments:
This beautiful piece came up randomly on the site this morning. Titled Mulini a vento, it conjures the idea of “windmills of my mind.” Warm tones in the textured ground provide a neutral layer for the contrasting hard edged shapes. There seems to be intaglio like marks throughout the surface, providing organic respite from more defined and solid edges. The pale blue and pink shapes arranged along the radiating spokes are fresh and engaging- they also have a decorative character that positions them as jewel-like components. With longer viewing, the piece actually becomes more mysterious. There are qualities that suggest a map in aerial view, but the stabilizing four corners also mimic the interior petals/windmills of the jewel-shapes. Looking back through your other pieces on the site, I appreciate your similar interplay with small pieces, or in some cases recognizable vehicles, against similarly manipulated backgrounds. They are pleasurable spaces to get lost in for a while. I do hope you consider positing new work on the site. I would love to see how your practice has evolved.
