Curator’s Comment:
I believe what I’m looking at here are photographs of cars and busses moving past bamboo scaffolding. (I was very intrigued when I saw this in Beijing last month.) The result is a wonderfully abstract grad of smeared color against stable line- as if I’m looking at a scraping of a palette knife against rough cloth. The small bursts of light reflection add a quality of luminosity and even iridescence to the fast moving blurs, while the linear structure provides a static and orderly counter measure. The series also imposes a pleasing measured interval, or beating rhythm. The hypnotic state caused by losing oneself in an instant is achieved- an expanded meditative encounter with the mundane. I find it interesting to contemplate this composite image alongside your more painterly arrangements. The second picture (05) carries some of the airy and spontaneous amalgamation of ordered and erratic elements, but the stabilizing force of the grid seems to be abandoned in favor of more organic manipulation. I hope to see more of your work on the site- thank you for sharing it.
