Small Paper Balloon (2-31) caught my attention today with its billowy washes and small splatters of pigment. I wasn’t familiar with the media you indicated- Vinyl Flashe Paint. I looked it up, and saw it can provide intense opaque coverage or thinned washes, so it is an interesting choice to paint on glass. The pigment does stretch between the perimeters described in your work, and it seems as though it’s assisted with your personalized, signature style. But this piece also caught my attention because of the clean and open areas of ground. The white both provides a visual relief from the pure primary hues, and at times seem to transverse between positive and negative space, such as in the small white open shapes. I also appreciated your notation about the wonders of play. Many of your paintings appear to leave room for ‘happy accidents’ while constructing refined compositional abstractions.
